Call to claim Centrelink disaster assistance

People are urged to call 180 22 66 when claiming disaster assistance payments from the Australian Government for the Townsville floods.

The Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment (AGDRP) and Disaster Recovery Allowance (DRA) are now available to people significantly affected.

The AGDRP is a one-off payment of $1,000 for eligible adults and $400 for eligible children who have been injured, or their home has been significantly damaged or destroyed as a result of the floods.

Department of Human Services General Manager Hank Jongen said calling is the fastest way to claim.

“Our message to people who want to claim is – ring, don’t come in,” Mr Jongen said.

“To claim call 180 22 66 or visit humanservices.gov.au/disaster for more information.

“We are working to deliver financial assistance to people as soon as possible, and calling to claim is the best option.”

AGDRP is a payment for eligible people living in Burdekin, Cook, Douglas, Townsville or Wujal Wujal local government areas.

DRA may also be available to eligible employees, primary producers and small business persons who live in these local government areas.

People do not need to be receiving an income support payment to be eligible for either payment.

Centrelink and Medicare Service Centres in the area are currently closed due to the severe weather event impacting the area.
