The Department of Human Services is bringing Medicare and Centrelink services together under the same roof to form the new Maroubra One-stop Shop from Monday 24 August 2015.
All staff and services at the Pagewood Service Centre offering Medicare services within Westfield Eastgardens will relocate to the Maroubra Service Centre on Maroubra Road.
Department of Human Services General Manager Hank Jongen said Maroubra joins more than 200 communities around Australia with access to the department’s one-stop shops.
“One-stop shops provide convenient, easy-to-access, coordinated services in the one location for customers in the local community,” Mr Jongen said.
“The creation of this new one-stop shop reflects the trend of delivering more government services from a single point, while also acknowledging significant changes in the way customers choose to claim their Medicare rebate.
“We have observed a substantial decrease in the number of people visiting the Pagewood Service Centre, and this is thanks to the introduction of a range of alternative claiming options.
“An increasing number of doctors are now offering electronic patient claiming services at the surgery, making it the best way to claim your Medicare benefit.
“Since the move away from cash rebates for Medicare claims in 2012, customer demand at the Westfield Eastgardens service centre has more than halved and nationally, more than 95% of all Medicare claims are lodged electronically at the point of service.
“I encourage local residents to take advantage of the department’s range of digital services, including myGov and the suite of Express Plus mobile apps, which allow people to do their routine government business where and when it suits them.
“However, face-to-face services will continue to be offered at the Maroubra Service Centre for those who require more personalised or intensive support.”
The Maroubra Service Centre is located at 138 Maroubra Road and will open Monday to Friday, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
