The Department of Human Services is improving the community’s access to government services in Boronia by bringing Medicare and Centrelink services together under one roof.
From Monday 2 December 2019, staff and services from the Wantirna (Knox City) Medicare Service Centre will co-locate into the nearby Boronia Centrelink Service Centre to create a one-stop shop.
The Boronia Service Centre will provide the full range of both Centrelink and Medicare face-to-face services, as well as supported digital services.
Department of Human Services General Manager Hank Jongen said bringing the Medicare and Centrelink services together would allow residents to do more of their government business from the one place.
‘We started bringing the Department of Human Services programs together in 2009 and now more than 220 Service Centres offer the full range of face‑to‑face Centrelink and Medicare services from a single physical location,’ Mr Jongen said.
‘Introducing this one-stop shop to Boronia also reflects the change in the way people are choosing to interact with Medicare.
Demand for face-to-face Medicare services is decreasing. Almost 99 per cent of all patient-claimed GP services are now being claimed electronically.
‘While we’ve seen a great uptake in the use of digital services, staff at the Boronia Service Centre will continue to provide face-to-face services to those who require more personalised or intensive support,’ Mr Jongen said.
Claims for common rebate items can be made through myGov in the Medicare online account, or using the Express Plus Medicare mobile app.
The Boronia Service Centre will be open Monday to Friday, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
