Centrelink and Medicare Service Centres in Townsville are closed due to the severe weather event impacting the area.
Department of Human Services General Manager Hank Jongen said people who need to contact Centrelink or Medicare can continue do their business online or over the phone.
“The department’s Willows Service Centre in Thuringowa Central, Ross River Road Service Centre in Aitkenvale and Access Point in Giru are closed,” Mr Jongen said.
“People who need to update their information can do so online, or use phone self-service on 136 240 and report income for Centrelink payments on 133 276 (13 EARN).
“For people in severely affected areas who can’t complete their regular reporting due to local conditions, the department is making arrangements to ensure they automatically get their fortnightly payment.
“Our thoughts are with the local community and we’re working hard to return to normal servicing as soon as possible.”
