We haven’t changed how we transition people from Newstart Allowance to Age Pension and claims to the contrary are simply incorrect.
This has never been an automatic process. All people claiming Age Pension, whether receiving a current payment or not, need to have their claim assessed.
This is because we need to assess people’s financial arrangements to determine if they meet the income and assets test, particularly if they hold a superannuation account and have reached the preservation age.
Eligible current customers are invited to complete an online transfer or submit a paper transfer form 13 weeks before they reach Age Pension age.
Our workload allocation system is fully functional. As at 27 August 2018, claims processing for current customers transferring to Age Pension is up to date.
